TYPE 1 DIABETES IN CONTEXT OF THE FAMILY TRIAD
Welcome to my study on families with
Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)
My name is Jessica Preciado and I am a graduate student at California State University San Marcos. I am conducting my graduate thesis on how families manage diabetes, under the direction of Professor Sharon Hamill, Ph.D. I am looking for families who have adolescents with type 1 diabetes.
For this study, you, your spouse/partner, and your child with type 1 diabetes will each be asked to fill out a short online survey. Each survey should only take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Everyone who completes the survey and completes an eligibility screening via a five-minute Zoom call will receive $5! (Maximum $15 per family)

You and your family may be eligible for this study if:
-
You have an adolescent with type 1 diabetes (aged 13-18, freshman-senior in high school) who has had T1D for at least one year
-
You have been in heterosexual relationship for at least one year
-
The study focuses on heterosexual couples only due to possible geographic differences in community supports for homosexual couples (i.e., some communities may be more or less supportive of homosexual couples and this may impact family members' responses).
-
-
You, your partner, and child have been living together more than 50% of the time for at least one year and reside in the United States.
-
You have access to email and are able to use Zoom for a video call to confirm eligibility upon completion of the study

You and your family may NOT be eligible for this study if:
-
Your child has had type 1 diabetes for less than one year
-
You are a single parent
-
The focus of this research is on mother, father, adolescent family triads in an effort to fill a gap in research; most studies focus on mothers only and few consider the family context of type 1 diabetes.
-
-
You and your partner have lived together for less than one year
-
You do not have access to email
-
You are unable to use Zoom for a video call
-
You do not reside in the United States
